What Is a Super Visa



The Canadian Super Visa is designed for parents or grandparents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents who wish to visit and stay in Canada for an extended period.

The visa can be valid for up to 10 years, with each stay lasting up to 24 months. Applicants must meet specific requirements, including: Passing a medical examination. Having valid Canadian health insurance coverage. Receiving financial support from the inviting child or grandchild. The Super Visa allows families to spend more time together in Canada without the restrictions of regular visitor visas.

Super Visa Income Requirements

Purpose of the Super Visa:
The Super Visa is designed to allow parents or grandparents waiting for family reunification immigration to spend extended time with their loved ones residing in Canada, without becoming a burden on social benefits.

Unlike regular single-entry or multiple-entry visitor visas, the Super Visa has specific requirements, including:

A minimum household income for the sponsoring Canadian family member

Proof of Canadian medical insurance coverage for the duration of the stay

Income Requirements:
The minimum income thresholds are based on the Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) and vary depending on the number of family members in the household. For reference, the income requirements for 2015 and 2016 were as follows:
